80 construction apprentices competed against each other and tested their skills in 9 different construction trades at the Skillbuild NI Finals 4th March 2016. Skillbuild NI, run and governed by CITB NI, is held annually each spring with the top local construction apprentices competing to win coveted titles ranging from brickwork to wall and floor tiling. The winners may then go on to represent Northern Ireland in the Skills Show UK and potentially at WorldSkills.

Currently Head of School of Computing and Information Engineering at Ulster University, Professor McKinney will take up his position at the College in May.

Northern Regional College has been shortlisted in three categories in the 2016 TES FE Awards. These prestigious national awards recognise the most outstanding individuals and institutions that the further education sector has to offer. More than 100 providers, individuals and teams are in the running for 14 awards, which will be presented at a ceremony on Friday 22 April in London.

As part of the NI Science Festival, Northern Regional College held another successful STEMFest event at the Coleraine Campus. Over 100 Year 10 students from Dalriada Grammar School, Ballymoney High School and St Paul’s College were provided an insight into STEM related industries through participating in six interactive workshops.
