Community Education
Northern Regional College provides a wide range of courses for adults in the community.
We work with many community and voluntary organisations to deliver courses in informal community venues near to home. Courses are set up in response to requests from community groups and can be facilitated at any time of the year. We offer a wide range of courses that are recreational and others that lead to a qualification, such as Essential Skills qualifications which will help you to improve your skills in the important subjects of English, Mathematics and ICT. Qualified lecturers will provide guidance and support to help you achieve your goals, so you can build from Level 1 to Level 2, which is accepted by many employers and educational providers.
Returning to study in a local setting can assist individuals to:
- Gain qualifications missed out on first time round
- Achieve skills and qualifications to enhance career prospects
- Develop new leisure interests
We also work in partnership with local community groups to deliver lifelong learning opportunities within Neighbourhood Renewal Areas across:
- Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council
- Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council
- Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

Community Access to Lifelong Learning (CALL) Project
This project is funded by the Department for Communities. The programme will provide a range of innovative and exciting activities, free of charge to participants, to engage the wider communities of the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas of Ballyclare and Ballymena (Ballee, Ballykeel, Harryville). The College will provide learning/taster sessions which will be shaped by the needs of the young people (16+) involved and also offer a range of community based activities and classes for other residents, such as healthy eating, how to use the internet and arts and crafts. The Empower Project
The Empower Project is a 5 year Big Lottery funded initiative through the Reaching Out Supporting Families Programme. The project commenced on September 2015.
The focus of the project is to support children under 12 with Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, their parents and the wider family circle to enhance confidence and learn together to develop skills to support their children in the Magherafelt and Antrim areas.
