A Northern Regional College apprentice has been recognised as one of the UK’s most talented young tradesmen at an event organised by Worldskills UK. Rory McCloskey (21) from Antrim was a gold medal winner at the UK National finals in Birmingham. He was competing with over 500 apprentices, exponents of 55 disciplines – as diverse as Aircraft Maintenance to 3D Game Design, Cabinet Making, Plumbing to Beauty Therapy and Cyber Security.

Could you be the next Richard Branson?

If you ever dreamt about being your own boss at the head of a successful business empire, read on as this could be your chance to see if you’ve got what it takes to be the next Richard Branson. Northern Regional College, in partnership with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is hosting a business challenge event at the Farm Lodge campus, Ballymena on Tuesday November 14. It is one of a series of events hosted by business support organisations throughout the borough to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week 2017.

Two Northern Regional College students are successfully juggling their studies with international football duty. Chloe McCarron (19) from Coleraine and Stewart Nixon (20) from Ballymena are second year Foundation Degree students at the College’s Coleraine campus. They are both studying Sport Exercise and Fitness which they hope will be their stepping stone to getting onto a degree programme at Ulster University.

Fundraising a Piece of Cake

Health and Social Care students at Northern Regional College in Coleraine launched their annual charity fundraising campaign this week. Each year, Health and Social Care students across all six campuses select a charity to support. Their nominated charity this year is AWARE, the national depression charity for Northern Ireland. Last year, staff and students raised over £4000 for the premature baby charity, Tiny Feet.

Northern Regional College has agreed a new international partnership with a college of further and higher education in South Africa. The partnership with Northlink College in Cape Town came about as a result of two reciprocal visits between the Colleges earlier this year. On the strength of these visits, which clearly identified potential benefits for both colleges, Professor Terri Scott, Principal/CEO for Northern Regional College and Leon Beech, Principal/CEO Northlink College have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) committing both colleges to build a sustainable relationship over the next five years.
