To mark World Nursery Rhyme week, staff and students decided to get into character as Pearl Dunlop, course co-ordinator Children’s Care Learning and Development explained:
“Nursery rhymes can play an important role in early childhood by helping children master key skills such as language and communication, as well as social, physical and emotional skills. We felt the importance of nursery rhymes deserved to be highlighted and decided a fun way to do this would be to by dress up as nursery rhyme characters. We also used it as an opportunity to have a nursery rhyme quiz to raise funds for AWARE which our department’s nominated charity this year.
Depression is a serious illness affecting thousands of people in Northern Ireland but mental health services are under-resourced. AWARE provides an invaluable service helping people to overcome depression or bipolar disorder, as well as providing corers for people with the illness. It also delivers mental health and well-being programmes into communities, schools, colleges, universities and workplace settings.
