Northern Regional College students at the College’s Ballymoney campus made a successful foray into the cut and thrust of the world of business with a fundraising project in aid of the Cancer Fund for Children. Route2Work, Aspire2Work and Workready are among the inclusive programmes offered by the College for students with learning difficulties or disabilities. As part of their course, Route2Work students complete an enterprise unit to get practical ‘hands on’ experience of what is involved in bringing a product to market.

The Year 12 pupils from Ballycastle High School and Cross and Passion College got a chance to try out their culinary skills in College’s well equipped professional kitchen, under the watchful eye of their mentors – students in the Level 3 Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cooking) class.
Continue ReadingPrimary 4 pupils at Limavady Central PS got some ‘hands on’ experience of ‘permanent and reversible’ changes when they visited Northern Regional College Coleraine campus for a series of science workshops. Chemistry lecturer Dr Johanne Brolly explained how the link with the school came about. “My son Isaac is in Primary four at Limavady Central and when the children were studying the topic ‘permanent and reversible changes’ in school, his teacher asked if I could come and talk to the children about science and maybe do some experiments in their classroom.

The design contract for the new £84 million capital investment programme at Northern Regional College has been awarded to McAdam Design. This significant investment will deliver new state of the art campuses on the current sites in Coleraine and at Farm Lodge in Ballymena. The projects are scheduled to be completed by summer 2022 and are funded by the Department for the Economy.

Continue ReadingNorthern Regional College apprentice Abigail Reilly (21) from Ballymoney was the top plumbing apprentice at the College’s annual intercampus competition hosted by the College in partnership with SkillbuildNI. Organised locally by CITB NI, SkillbuildNI is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for young students and apprentices and the first step on a journey that could led to the world finals. The category winners in the skills areas of Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Brickwork, Joinery and Carpentry progress to next month’s Northern Ireland regional finals. Regional winners go forward to represent Northern Ireland at Skills Show UK later this year to be in with a chance of securing a coveted place at the WorldSkills finals in Russia.
