Northern Regional College students will be among the record number of young people to be recognised at tonight's Career Ready graduation ceremony in Queen's University Belfast. The graduation ceremony marks a major milestone on the Career Ready students’ career progression path and, with a total of 24 engineering students and 13 IT students graduating, Northern Regional College was well represented among the record number of Career Ready graduates from schools and college across Northern Ireland.

Northern Regional College apprentices who excelled at the NI Skillbuild finals have been congratulated by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE. Second year carpentry apprentice, Samuel Gilmore from Coleraine, who is employed with Mark Pollock in Kilrea, won a gold medal in the carpentry section and received the top accolade of the Best Overall Skillbuild NI Young Apprentice of the Year.First year plumbing apprentice Abigail Reilly from Ballymoney, who is employed by the Dowd’s Group, won a bronze medal in the plumbing section. Abigail was one of only a handful of female apprentices to compete in the finals and the only first year medal winner across the ten different skills areas which included plumbing, carpentry, joinery, electrical installation and brickwork

Northern Regional College Apprentices excelled at Skillbuild NI National Finals collecting two gold and two bronze medals, as well as the accolade of Best Overall Apprentice. Samuel Gilmore, who is a second year carpentry apprentice with Mark Pollock, won gold in the carpentry and, beating off the challenge from over 70 construction apprentices in ten different trades including carpentry, joinery, brickwork, plumbing, electrical installation, wall and floor tiling, lifted the Haldene Fisher Cup for the Best Overall Skillbuild NI Young Apprentice of the Year.

AstraZeneca Student of the Year Awards

Northern Regional College IT student Amy Chan has been shortlisted for a Career Ready STEM Student of the Year Award. The Career Ready STEM Student of the Year Awards, sponsored by AstraZeneca, recognise students who have made the most progress towards a career in a STEM related industry. A winner and runner up will be selected for the each category of Science, Technology and Engineering.

Year 10 pupils from local secondary schools went head to head in the annual Rotary Club of Ballymena Schools’ Technology tournament at the Farm Lodge campus Ballymena last week. Seventeen teams from 8 different schools took part in the competition, which was hosted by Northern Regional College in partnership with Ballymena Rotary Club and with the generous support of the local business community.

We Are The Champions!

A stunning strike three minutes into stoppage time from Kevin O'Kane was a fitting way for Northern Regional College to edge out IT Carlow 'C' and become the first Northern Ireland side to claim a Rustlers Colleges and Universities League title. The Division Two final took place on Tuesday 13 March at the FAI headquarters in Blanchardstown, Dublin, with the victory for the team meaning they are now promoted to Division One next year.
