Northern Regional College Travel and Tourism lecturer, Karen McLeod has come up with an innovative and cost effective way to encourage her students to broaden their career horizons and make the most of growing career opportunities in the industry. The College has established a successful partnership with Harryville Primary School in Ballymena to help deliver ‘Working as a Children’s holiday Representative’ for Level 3 Travel and Tourism students.

Creative Industries lecturers from Northern Regional College are in London this weekend for the glittering UK grand finale of the Pearson Teaching Awards. Earlier this year the Creative Industries team received a Silver Teaching Award in the ‘FE Team of the Year’ category in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the teaching profession. They are now in the running for the coveted Gold Plato Award.

A former Northern Regional College student from Ballymoney has been awarded a prestigious J P McManus All Ireland Scholarship Award. Eighteen years old Sophie Calderwood, who studied Business and IT at the College’s Trostan Avenue campus in Ballymena, is one of only six students from across Northern Ireland to receive a scholarship this year. She is now in her first year of a British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreting degree at Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Please Sir, Can We Have Some More?

Two local ladies who got a taste for community education courses at Millburn Community Centre just keep coming back for more. When Samantha Taggart and Nicola Kirgan decided to do a ‘refresher’ Maths class so they could help their children with homework, it whetted their appetite for learning. After successfully completing Essential Skills Level 2 Maths, they did Level 2 Computing and have now signed on for Level 2 English.
