South African Partnership for Northern Regional College

Northern Regional College has agreed a new international partnership with a college of further and higher education in South Africa. The partnership with Northlink College in Cape Town came about as a result of two reciprocal visits between the Colleges earlier this year. On the strength of these visits, which clearly identified potential benefits for both colleges, Professor Terri Scott, Principal/CEO for Northern Regional College and Leon Beech, Principal/CEO Northlink College have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) committing both colleges to build a sustainable relationship over the next five years.

The aim of the MoA is to create a common understanding regarding a working agreement between both colleges and to provide a framework and mechanism for co-operative activities of mutual interest.  It will encourage both colleges to share best practice, build capacity and pursue areas of common interest such as:  Digital Learning and Information Technology (Academic and Support) through the develop of curriculum materials and online assessments; Artisan Skills Development and Apprenticeships models (Industry engagement/ Dual system); inter-college competitions for students; Entrepreneurship and Self-employment; Business Process Transformation Administration model; Management Operating Model development

Both colleges are committed, in the first instance, to mapping the curriculum offering to determine common areas and areas of specialisation, defining and agreeing on a roadmap for short, medium and long-term actions, and identify of specific components of the MoA that could be supported through external funding.

Speaking at the signing of the MoA, Professor Terri Scott, Principal/CEO Northern Regional College said: “We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Northlink College.  It represents a significant opportunity to enrich the lives of staff and students as well as developing a curriculum fit for the modern international economy, and I look forward to seeing this partnership develop in the future.”
