Workready and Route2Work students at Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey campus, undertook a unit called Business Enterprise. As part of this unit students were required to design, create, price, market and sell a new product. The students had been following the City & Guilds Employability course. Both classes made cards and decorations and sold these to staff and students, with all proceeds going towards the Northern Ireland Hospice.
Continue ReadingCatering students cooked up a treat at the Employers' Networking lunch under the direction of Paula McIntyre, the renowned Northern Irish Chef who has numerous radio and TV credits to her name, including her current weekly 'Cooking with Paula McIntyre' show on BBC Radio Ulster. Local companies were invited to the Dunluce Suite in our Ballymoney Campus to learn about developments at the College and meet with staff and Professor Terri Scott, the Principal and Chief Executive.

Karen has worked for Easyjet and Menzies aviation at Belfast International Airport - posts she first secured as a result of the work experience opportunities at Northern Regional College, Ballymena campus.
Continue ReadingTravel & Tourism students from Northern Regional College will be supporting Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event from Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th May as the Race Week Festival for the North West 200 gets underway. Over 800 people volunteer at the North West 200 in various roles and this year Rowan Moffit-Clarke who is completing the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism and Hannah Goddard from Level 2 Traineeship in Travel and Tourism both at Northern Regional College, Coleraine are assisting in the areas of Hospitality and Catering and Event Ambassador & Event Survey roles.

As part of the Entitlement Framework offering, Northern Regional College works in partnership with schools to enhance the experience of students by providing an exciting and innovative vocational curriculum which is relevant to the opportunities available within the world of commerce and industry. Occupational studies is a strand of the Entitlement Framework where students attend Northern College one day per week and study four modules as part of their training to achieve their Occupational Studies qualification. Recently, Year 11 and 12 students from Castle Tower and St Patricks College, Ballymena visited McBurney Transport to assist them in the Unit – Logistics and Transport – which is part of their Occupational studies programme.
Continue ReadingPerforming Art students from Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey put on a number of shining performances showcasing their skills and talents to audiences at local Secondary schools within the Newtownabbey/North Belfast area. As part of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts course, students are involved in at least one production every year, as well as being part of a touring company travelling with their Roadshow to local schools. For the Roadshow, the Performing Arts department devised a highly visual, entertaining display which included a selection of Drama, Dance and Music.
