Performing Art students showcase their skills and talent to local schools

Wednesday

Performing Art students from Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey put on a number of shining performances showcasing their skills and talents to audiences at local Secondary schools within the Newtownabbey/North Belfast area. As part of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts course, students are involved in at least one production every year, as well as being part of a touring company travelling with their Roadshow to local schools. For the Roadshow, the Performing Arts department devised a highly visual, entertaining display which included a selection of Drama, Dance and Music.

They travelled to a number of schools, including; Little Flower Girls School, Belfast; Downshire School, Carrickfergus; Abbey Community College, Monkstown; and Dominican College Fortwilliam, Belfast.

Gemma McGranaghan, Northern Regional College Performing Arts lecturer explained,

“The Roadshow Project is an integral part of the Performing Arts course.  It enables students to develop existing skills as well as learning new skills, giving them a taste of life on tour in the industry. The students are responsible for the “get in” and “get out” at each venue, as well as performing in a number of pieces. Whilst hard work, this is a really enjoyable experience for all involved and sets the students up for their future career.  Students are also able to maximise the use of these practical activities to help complete their continuous assessments. I would like to thank each of the schools for being so welcoming and look forward to returning with our Roadshow again next year. ”
