Employers’ Networking Breakfast

Northern Regional College opened the doors of its Magherafelt Campus early this morning to welcome employers from across the Mid-Ulster area to a Networking Breakfast. Attendees represented companies from across a number of sectors including construction, manufacturing and engineering. Professor Terri Scott, Principal & Chief Executive, updated guests on recent College developments, while Dr Steve Brankin, Vice-Principal Business Development & Transformation and Clare O’Neill, Head of Business Development highlighted the variety of funded training packages which the College can deliver for employers of all sizes in order to ensure they can fill vacancies with skilled employees, and upskill those already working for them.

The Honourable the Irish Society made their annual visitation to the Coleraine campus of the Northern Regional College at the start of the week to present special achievement awards to students in the vocational areas of Sports, Science and Exercise and Health and Social Care. The two recipients were Jessica Graham and Nicole Milliken.

Congratulations to Gary Holmes, Foundation Degree in Computing student who won the technical challenge set by Relay during a recent seminar at Northern Regional College. The challenge required students to analyse a problem and develop an effective solution. The aim was to develop their problem solving skills and programming ability.

As part of the Level 3 Travel and Tourism programme at Northern Regional College all students enjoy the opportunity to complete the world class World Host training. In year 1 students complete Principles of Customer Service, Ambassadors skills- a regionalised tourist information module and a local familiarisation tour. In year 2 students complete a further world host training programme Service across Cultures. These programmes are designed for present and future workforce across Tourism, Hospitality, Passenger Transport sectors . The programme is designed to raise the standard of and delivery of customer service in Northern Ireland, the UK and globally.

Engineering and IT students from Northern Regional College celebrated completing a programme of masterclasses, mentoring and work-based learning designed to help them become ‘career ready’ when they finish their studies. The Graduation event was held at the Parliament Buildings on Thursday 26 May at 5.00 pm. The evening was hosted by two former Career Ready graduates Courtney Hannah and Anthony Fagan and featured a number of speeches from students who were graduating from the programme this year, as well as the coordinators who have worked tirelessly to support the students during their time on the programme. Northern Regional College students were presented with certificates in front of an audience of students, parents/guardians, and employers.

Quality precast solutions company Moore Concrete is backing the best business brains in the province as they team up with Northern Regional College to present the Moore Concrete Cup and Bursary to the best Business Studies Student at the Coleraine Campus. The generous bursary of £300 and the offer of work placements which could potentially lead to employment is a long standing relationship between the College and the company. This year the Award was presented by Nicola Mowbray from Moore Concrete to Fergal Cudden.
