Past Student of Northern Regional College inspires Travel & Tourism students

Karen Kerr, a past student of Northern Regional College, Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Travel and Tourism recently returned to share her experiences of Higher Education opportunities she undertook following completion of her Travel and Tourism course, as well as her experiences of employment in the Travel and Tourism industry in Northern Ireland. Karen has worked for Easyjet and Menzies aviation at Belfast International Airport - posts she first secured as a result of the work experience opportunities at Northern Regional College, Ballymena campus.

She is presently employed by Select Travel in their business division and has responsibility for looking after travel, accommodation and transfer arrangements for a portfolio of corporate customers in N.Ireland.

Karen’s talk was inspiring and motivational for present students and extremely relevant as they start to think about their career prospects and progression routes after they complete their course.

Karen McLeod Course coordinator Travel and Tourism was delighted to hear Karen share her wealth of experience and says “ Karen’s talk was very engaging and allowed students to learn about the wonderful opportunities Level 3 course at Northern Regional College offers students in the real working world”.  Karen spoke so very highly of her studies at Northern Regional College and the industry commended airline/ airport qualifications she completed in addition to her core Level 3 course as well as the relevancy of the units she studied, work experiences opportunities in both years of the course and fun activities and trips she participated in. She told the current year 1 and year 2 students how wonderful the Level 3 course was in preparing her for both her Higher level studies and also for employment in the retail travel sector and the airline/airport sector.” Karen achieved excellent grades, was awarded “Star Student” and she progressed to the Ulster University before pursuing her career.
