Northern Regional College to deliver recruitment selection testing for NIE Networks

Northern Regional College has secured a contract with NIE Networks to deliver recruitment selection testing for applicants to the Electricity firm’s apprenticeship programme. With 750 applicants to sift through, NIE Networks has partnered with Northern Regional College to assist with its selection and recruitment process through a computer based test programme.

Northern Regional College apprentices were amongst over 75 local construction apprentices who gathered their tools to compete against each other in the annual Skillbuild NI National Finals held in Southern Regional College, Portadown on 24th March 2017. Skillbuild NI, which is now in its fortieth year, is supported by the Department for the Economy helping to assist with maintaining and raising the status and standards of professional and technical education and training. The competition, run and governed by CITB NI, is held annually each spring with many winners progressing further to represent Northern Ireland in the Skills Show UK and potentially at WorldSkills.

Northern Regional College, in partnership with Ballymena Rotary Club, held a local schools technology tournament yesterday at the College’s Farm Lodge campus. The competition was supported and sponsored by local businesses and comprised of 18 teams of Year 10 students from schools in the Ballymena area including St Benedict’s College, Ballymena Academy, St Louis Grammar School, Cambridge House Grammar School, St Patrick’s College, Slemish College, Castle Tower School, Dunclug College and Cullybackey College.

Robert Hamilton, 21 years of age, who is now self-employed following his apprenticeship at Northern Regional College, through employer Rodney Turtle, is aiming to represent the UK in Carpentry at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. Billed as the toughest skills competition in the world, WorldSkills Abu Dhabi will see over 1000 apprentices and students from 70 countries come together to compete to be named the top carpenter in the world. Robert will take part in a four day selection competition from 29 March to 1 April at Stockport College in Manchester where he will compete against other apprentices from across the UK to win a coveted place in Team UK for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.
