Following the success of the pilot programme, the Northern Regional College is planning to offer the OCN NI Level 2 Tour Guiding certificate again in the autumn. The course was run as a part-time evening course at the College’s Coleraine campus one evening a week between November and December last year. A total of nine people, some of them already involved in local tourism enterprises, successfully completed the course.

The generous bursary of £300 and the offer of work placements which could potentially lead to employment is a long-standing relationship between the College and the company. The Award was presented by Nicola Mowbray from Moore Concrete to Aisha Arafat.
Continue ReadingTrainees from Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus have beaten off stiff competition to secure the top three spots at the regional semi-finals of SkillWeld 2017. SkillWeld is the UK’s most prestigious, national welder competition. Each year, the top trainee welders from all over the UK are invited to compete in the competition. The first stage is to complete test pieces in their own College and then competitors with the highest score qualify for the regional semi-finals, which this year were held at the Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey Campus.

Building on a successful four years with Engineering and IT Career Ready Programmes at its Ballymena campus, the Northern Regional College has launched the Career Ready Engineering Programme at its Magherafelt campus. Twelve new students have secured full summer paid placements with local engineering companies, bringing the current number of College students participating in the programme this summer in paid employment to 44 students with 30 different local employers.
