The Empower Project continues to go from strength to strength providing invaluable support to families with children on the autism spectrum in Magherafelt and Antrim areas. The packed programme of family events planned for Halloween include a movie screening at Seamus Heaney Homeplace on October 27 at 2 pm; Jump, Jiggle and Jive session in St Swithin’s Parish Hall on Monday 29 October from 10 - 11; Arts and Crafts in Northern Regional College on Thursday, November 1 from 10 – 12 noon; and martial arts on Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November from 10 – 11 and 11 - 12. Care and Access students and staff at Northern Regional College have nominated Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland as this year’s departmental charity. ADNI trains and provides assistance dogs to a range of service users, including families of children on the autistic spectrum, the NI Children’s Hospice and the NI Court Service.

The six Colleges hosted representatives from a diverse range of business sectors at a special event in Allstate’s Belfast premises, with the clear message – ‘Let’s Do Business’.

A former Northern Regional College student has made a little bit of history by representing international financial services company, Cowen Inc. at its centenary celebration in New York. Conor Cregan was among the select number of employees invited to join Cowen CEO, Jeffrey M. Solomon, ring the NASDAQ Stock Exchange opening bell in New York on Friday September 28 to mark the company’s 100th anniversary.

Four Northern Regional College students have qualified for the Worldskills UK Live Competition in Birmingham next month. The College will be represented by Mechatronics students, Haydn Roebuck and Joshua Pyper, from Ballymena who are both are doing a Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Carpentry apprentice, Samuel Gilmore from Coleraine who is the current SkillBuild Young Apprentice of the Year and Thomas Hamill from Carrickfergus. Thomas is doing a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Interactive Media at Newtownabbey.
