Former Northern Regional College Student Awarded Prestigious JP McManus Scholarship

A former Northern Regional College student from Newtownabbey has been awarded a prestigious J P McManus All Ireland Scholarship Award. Darren Downing, studied Computing for four years at the College’s Newtownabbey campus. After completing a Level 2 Diploma, he progressed to complete the Level 3 Extended Diploma with three Distinction* - the equivalent of 3 A*s at A level. He is now doing a degree in Computing Technologies at Ulster University.

Eighteen years old Samuel Gilmore from Aghadowey, won a gold medal in the carpentry division at the UK National Finals of WorldSkills UK LIVE in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

Students at Northern Regional College will benefit from improved classroom experiences, thanks to the generosity of an industry leader. SafeGuard Clothing, a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of body armour has donated equipment to the College. It will be used by students on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services for role-play and detailed technical analysis.

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production students in Trostan Avenue and Performing Arts students in Newtownabbey created the video to mark National Anti-Bullying Week (November 16 – 19).
