Katie Mullan, captain of the Irish Women’s Hockey team, has received an Honorary Fellowship from Northern Regional College. Katie, from Coleraine, is one of four individuals to receive the honour who have had an impact upon the College and the local community. The other recipients are David Watson, Managing Director of Ryobi Aluminium Casting (UK) Ltd.; Gail Redmond, Women’s Domestic Manager for the Irish FA Foundation; and Jimmy Kelly, former Training and Development Manager at RLC Langford Lodge.

Carpentry apprentices Samuel Gilmore from Aghadowey and Patrick McCloskey from Garvagh along with plumbing apprentice Abigail Reilly from Ballymoney were special guests at the event held in Cloonavin which was also attended by their lecturers, family members and employers.

Over 150 local primary and post-primary pupils from the Magherafelt area have taken part in an educational initiative to showcase computer science opportunities at Northern Regional College. The Department for the Economy funded ‘Bring IT On’ event was designed to inform young people about opportunities in computer science and encourage them to consider a career in IT.

Northern Regional College is an ideal stepping stone for university and a successful professional career, according to former Built Environment students. Jonny Stewart and Keith Stewart, who have qualified as a Chartered Town Planner and Chartered Architectural Technologist respectively, both work for GM Design Associates, a multi-disciplinary practice based in Coleraine.
