Northern Regional College Lecturer Nominated for Prestigious National Award

A Health and Social Care lecturer from Northern Regional College has been nominated for a prestigious national education award. Jacqui McAllister, based at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, has been shortlisted for Further Education (FE) Leader of the Year at the Tes FE Awards in London next month.

Former Northern Regional College student Holly Hume made a welcome return to the Farm Lodge campus to offer words of encouragement and advice to current Travel and Tourism students. Holly, who is from Ballymena, told the students how the Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism had opened up a world of opportunities for her.
Continue ReadingYear 12 pupils from local secondary schools visited Northern Regional College this week to check out the vocational courses available at the Magherafelt campus. During a whistle-stop tour of the campus, they had an opportunity to speak to staff and students about course options in the different curriculum areas including - Engineering, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Hair and Beauty, Early Years, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism, Business and IT. At each stop, they also got to try out some interactive activities like virtual welding and computer games.

To mark the 9th annual National Student Money week, the College’s Student Services team adopted a proactive approach to encourage sustainability among the students. Stephen McCartney Head of Student Services at the College and current chairman of the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA), explains: “This year’s campaign is all about sustainability and saving money so, armed with our storage jars, we paid a visit to The Larder, a local zero waste shop in Broughshane.”

The scheme will give students from the College’s Ballymoney and Newtownabbey campuses the chance to gain extra credits and obtain a full Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies.

The competition, which is governed and run by the Construction Industry and Training Board NI (CITBNI), saw 35 trainees and apprentices from across the College battle it out to secure their place in the SkillBuild 2020 NI finals.
