Stephen continues: “We wanted to show the students how they can get quality and variety by shopping locally and to highlight how a zero waste shop cuts back on packaging to support sustainable shopping.
“Northern Regional College has always recognised the importance of students being financially aware and National Student Money Week is all about doing what we can to inspire students to be more cost conscious and financially capable,” he adds.
The Larder at Raceview Mill is one of only a few zero waste shops in Northern Ireland. With a range of dried goods such as cereals, coffee and spices and cleaning materials, as well as fresh organic produce and frozen goods, it offers an alternative to local shoppers who want to do their bit for the environment.
In recent years, Northern Regional College has played a key role helping to support National Student Money Week in Northern Ireland. Events are hosted across all six campuses to encourage students to engage and support the campaign. Events this year included cookery demonstrations to show how to cook delicious and nutritious meals on a budget, environmentally friendly shopping habit advice clinics, raffles and an interactive online money learning tool.
National Student Money Week is supported by the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA) and Blackbullion.
