Northern Regional College Art student, Sacha McCart from Rasharkin, has been named Student Union Class Representative of the Year for Ballymena students attending the College. Sasha, who has just completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Northern Regional College, has secured a scholarship to study Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire.

A young Ballymena mum who struggled at school was one of the ‘Highest Achieving Students’ to be recognised at Northern Regional College’s student awards ceremonies this week. Lauren Kernohan (25) from Ballymena not only successfully completed Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery at the College in Ballymena but finished top of her class. Lauren, who has two children aged 3 and 8, has just taken up a new position as cook in a Galgorm nursing home.

Five Northern Regional College electrical apprentices have been nominated in the category of Apprentice of the Year at the Northern Ireland Electricity Awards 2019, which represent the pinnacle achievement for the electrical industry in Northern Ireland. Paul Higgins and Connor Hyland, both apprentice electricians with the Dowds Group, Calum McAuley, an apprentice with Alexander Bonar & Co., Jordan Haggan, who works with Braid Electrical Services Co., and Adrian Walls, who is currently completing his apprenticeship with Premier Electrics, have all been nominated for the accolade.

Newtownabbey brickwork trainees had an opportunity to see the work involved in a major building project during a visit to Woodburn Primary School in Carrickfergus which is currently under construction. The first and second year trainees, accompanied by staff members Kieran Kelly and Sarah Lynas were given a guided tour of the £3.1 million new school development by site foreman Andy Greer.

Creative Media staff and students at Northern Regional College have collaborated with the PSNI to produce a hard-hitting road safety message.The #SoberingMoment campaign aims to highlight the fact that drug driving is just as dangerous as drink driving. The initiative used the skills of the College’s students to promote safety and responsible decision-making amongst their peers.
