This is a huge international event for Northern Ireland which will be viewed by a global television audience together with 1000’s of spectators expected on the day.
49Both the Council and the College are keen to showcase Newtownabbey at its best and one way of doing this was to harness the creativity of local art students to produce work befitting of such an event. As Art and Design Lecturer Deirdre Mulhern explains, “This has been a great experience for our students; we decided to run with the theme ‘Generation Giro D ‘Italia’. One of my students supplied us with old bikes from various sizes to represent both genders across the age range and it is lovely to see the small bikes against the larger one. These bikes have been sprayed pink in keeping with the Giro D ‘Italia’ colours and will be put in position by the Council on the Shore Road for the Giro D ‘Italia”. So if you are on the Shore Road in Newtownabbey on Saturday the 10th May take time to view this creative celebration of the Giro D ‘Italia”.
Those involved were: Tutors: Deirdre Mulhern, Paul Wilson and technician David Black. Students: Rebekah Millar( team leader), Celeece Mayne, Tammy Butler, Harley Mc Dowell, Jack Jordan, Simone Crothers and Ethan Hooper.
