Transforming Learning from a Chore to an Enjoyable Experience

Monday

Studying at the College’s Coleraine campus helped transform learning from a chore to an enjoyable experience, according to Castlerock student, Calum MacKenzie. Calum has just completed a Level 3 Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science and is now on track to fulfil his dream of becoming a primary school teacher. He was awarded three Distinction* - the equivalent of three A*s at A level – and has accepted a place at Plymouth University to do a Batchelor of Education degree, specialising in PE.

A past pupil of Coleraine Grammar School, Calum went back to school after GCSEs and began A levels in Spanish, English Literature and ICT but says he realised very quickly there was a lot of ‘unnecessary stress’ associated with A levels.

“I really enjoy sport so the Level 3 Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science was my opportunity to study a something I have a strong passion for. The topics covered were all interesting and which transformed learning into an enjoyable experience instead of a chore. I wouldn’t think twice about recommending it.

“The lecturers were all incredibly friendly and very helpful. I really enjoyed my two years at the College and feel I benefited enormously from the experienced staff. The skills and knowledge I developed throughout the course will help me achieve my dream of becoming a teacher.
