Top Business Awards for Coleraine Students

Monday

Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Business students from the Coleraine Campus are awarded top Business Awards in recognition of their achievements. Daniel Laverty was presented and awarded the Moore Concrete Cup and Bursary by Laura McCartney, a representative from Moore Concrete.

Daniel Laverty - Daniel enrolled on to the BTEC National Business course in September in 2011 with 9 GCSEs studied at Cross and Passion College, Ballycastle.  His overall achievement at NRC was 3 final grades of D*D*D*.  Not only did Daniel achieve the top 3 grades but he achieved distinction standard in all 18 units over the 2 years of the course.

From the outset Daniel had a very keen interest in business and came to NRC as he believed that the Level 3 course would give him the knowledge and skills he needed to progress.  To achieve the excellent profile of grades Daniel worked hard to ensure that every deadline was met with high quality work.  Daniel’s coursework was always very impressive, it was detailed and well written, and it never disappointed.  He remained focused on his main objective which was to go to University and study business.

His Tutors are very proud of his outstanding overall achievement and wish him well in his studies at the UU, Jordanstown, where he is currently studying for a BSc Hons Degree in Business Studies.

DR STEVENSON PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP Presented by Laura McCartney, Moore Concrete was awarded to Devon Faulkner.

Devon enrolled on to the BTEC National course in September in 2011 with 6 GCSEs as well as other equivalent GCSE examinations, Level 3 Double Award Health and Social Care (B,C) and Single Award Travel & Tourism (B), all studied at Coleraine College.

Devon impressed from the very start of the course, not just because of how well qualified she was but because the standard of her work was always a wonderful example to all.  Her organisational and presentation skills stood out from the crowd and assignments were professional in content and style and delivered on time, every time.  It is no surprise that she achieved 3 overall grades of D*D*D* and is now enjoying the course of her choice at the University of her choice.

Devon was so excited at the prospect of moving to Belfast.  She left nothing to chance, she thought carefully about what she wanted to do and had everything planned down to the smallest of details to make sure this happened.  Devon’s Tutors are very proud of her achievements and are really pleased that she is happy and settled.  They would like to wish her every success for the future.  Devon is currently studying for a Degree in Criminology with Sociology at Queen’s University, Belfast.

ELIZABETH THOMPSON ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Presented by Laura McCartney, Moore Concrete and awarded to Max Moore-Wilson

Max enrolled on to the BTEC National course in September in 2011 with 8 GCSEs studied at Campbell College, Belfast.  Max is very much a people-person and excelled in Marketing and Human Resource Management in year 1.  His interview skills and technique stood out in the practical part of a recruitment and selection role play, he was an inspiration, a real natural.  Year 2 saw fantastic results for Max, he achieved Distinctions in all 9 units which was a major achievement and resulted in 3 overall grades of DDM.

Max has a great interest in a number of sports and it was this interest that inspired him to study at NRC in the evening, part-time to achieve a personal trainer qualification.  He took this to a new level for his business idea, and his website design revolved around this too, which in theory he could still pursue after he finishes at University.

Max is also a very creative person so it is no surprise that Marketing was the area he decided to major in.  He is currently at the UU, Jordanstown, studying for a BSc Hons Degree in Marketing.  His Tutors wish him every success in the future.

SPRINGWELL CUP Presented by Laura McCartney, Moore Concrete and awarded to Charles Duce

Charles enrolled on to the BTEC First Diploma course in September 2010 and achieved an overall D*.  He then enrolled on to the BTEC National Diploma course in 2011, the Level 3 course that gave him D*D*D and the opportunity for him to continue with his education at University, which was his major ambition since he came to NRC.

Charles had a lot to prove, not only to himself but others too, that he could achieve this level of work and with pure determination and drive, he is well on his way to fulfilling this dream.  Charles was relentless in his endeavours over the 3 years at NRC, he was enthusiastic, motivated, self-disciplined and a welcome addition to the class.  He would agree that he was never the greatest fan of Maths or Accounts but he did achieve an Essential Skills qualification in numeracy which was a necessity to study at a higher level.   This was a great achievement for him and a great confidence boost - Charles need never be afraid of numbers again. Tutors could not be more proud of his achievements and sincerely hope that Charles continues to believe in his abilities and that he remains as focused and ambitious at University as he was whilst at NRC.

Charles is currently at the UU, Coleraine where he is studying for a BSc Hon Degree in Business with Marketing.
