Engineering apprentices from Northern Regional College in partnership with Ryobi were inspired at their graduation ceremony when Ryobi Managing Director David Watson was presented with an Honorary Fellowship.
The College has a long-standing relationship with Ryobi, who support the College’s apprentices as they acquire their Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering. The apprenticeship sees students spending one day per week at Northern Regional College and four days per week at Ryobi, giving them a balance of practical and theoretical learning. In recognition of the effective training provided throughout this qualification, in 2018 the College won the Chamber of Business Award with Ryobi for their Education Business Partnership.
Ruth Walker, Assistant Head of Department for Engineering at Northern Regional College, explained:
“It was great for the apprentices to see David Watson collecting his honorary fellowship on the same day as they graduated from the College.
“It was a really inspiring day for them, and it strengthens the already mutually beneficial relationship between the College and Ryobi.
“This partnership has seen hundreds of Northern Regional College receive top-quality training from Ryobi and we hope that this lasts for many years to come.”
The Ryobi apprentices have worked hard at the College for a number of years, with many of them beginning at Level 2 and working their way up to Level 4 before taking on the HNC qualification.
