It’s an exciting time for nine NRC students as they prepare to head to The Skills Show in Birmingham next week. Dubbed the ‘Olympics’ for education and training, The Skills Show organised by Find a Future is the nation’s largest skills and careers event, attracting over 75,000 visitors. The show provides hands-on experiences that inspire young people to explore further education, skills and Apprenticeships.

Representing NRC are Jordan Douglas (Bricklaying), Robert Hamilton (Carpentry & Joinery), Dean Boyle (CNC Milling), Ryan Conor (Electrical Installation), Ryan Forsythe (Plumbing) and Conall Dowd, Peter Barkley, Paul McCaughern and Philip Anderson, all in the Mechatronics category.

Ronnie Laverty, Head of Faculty for Built Environment & Engineering at NRC said, “It’s a great opportunity for our talented young students to demonstrate their skills and their ability to perform at the highest level.  The students have worked hard alongside lecturing staff in preparing for this competition and we wish them every success.”

Successful NRC competitors from the WorldSkills UK National Competition Finals at The Skills Show may be asked to join the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 Shortlist which will see them compete for a place in the team that will represent the UK at the international competition.
