Irvine Abraham, College Internationalisation Manager from Northern Regional College explains,
“Through this ISP we seek to achieve two outcomes, (1) Benchmark the local Carpentry and Joinery skills competitions between Northern Regional College and Sekhukhune TVET College and (2) provide opportunities for students/apprentices to compete internationally at local level. Employability skills will be enhanced as students/apprentices also develop communication, teambuilding, problem solving, critical thinking and learning to learn. Lecturing staff will benefit personally and professionally through their exposure to their subject within an international context.”
As part of the project, the College hosted a recent study visit where Parcy Mabooa, Head of Department Engineering and Construction from Sekhukhune TVET College embarked in a five day visit to meet and discuss content and structure of skills competitions to agree a format for these going forward. At the end of the visit it was agreed that Sekhukhune TVET College would undertake a skills competition during August and Northern Regional College during October/November 2018 involving up to 30 participants. This would be videoed for the project and one staff member and the winning apprentice would visit their respective College.
