Students on the Prince’s Trust programme at the Newtownabbey Campus have raised funds as part of their Halloween team challenge, in support of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The programme which is a structured 12 week personal development programme, helps 16-25 year olds to develop confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community.
Gerry Drake, NRC Programme Co-ordinator said that “The students rose to the challenge extremely well, they decided they would run a fun task by filling a jar full of sweets and asking students on campus to estimate how many sweets were in the jar and at the same time fundraise for the two charities. Tasks like this, give young people the opportunity to uncover their hidden talents and develop skills in order to increase their employability.”
Macmillan Cancer Support and Northern Ireland’s Children’s Hospice were selected by the students and they will be supporting both charities on their Belfast Fundraising Flag Days scheduled for November & December 2013.
