Motor Vehicle and Engineering students in the Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey Campus were given specialist road safety awareness training with Michelin, to test the effects of driving with under-inflated tyres.
A specially designed MINI simulator from Michelin was set up at the Colleges Transport Skills Centre, which tested the students driving skills, via a computer link to a Mini Cooper car.
Richard Aiken, NRC Curriculum Manager for Motor Vehicle explains, “As part of NRC’s training to all our students in Motor Vehicle, we promote the importance of safety at all times. The opportunity provided by Michelin with this simulator, gave the student’s a unique driving experience in a fun and safe environment, while providing essential road safety testing and training.”
Commenting on his drive in the Michelin Mini simulator, NRC student Robert O’Callaghan said, “The experience was amazing, you are transformed into a virtual driving seat in the car and you then encounter real- life problems and risks of driving with deflated tyres. I know all the class have learned a lot from this very valuable road safety experience and we all plan to put it into practice in the future.”
