Speaking at the event Michael’s Tutor, Frankie McEldowney said, “Michael showed an outstanding level of patience and perseverance in the production of this animation, as he built the set and made his characters from scratch and shot nearly 3,000 still images. Michael’s work ethic and time management coupled with his creativity makes him a first class student. He is an independent student totally focused on producing work to the highest possible level and his attention to detail is second to none.”
Congratulations also went to NRC Ballymoney Media Student Nicola Clyde who was shortlisted in the Factual Category for her piece entitled, ‘Mobility Challenge’.
Michael Wilson, Chair of the RTS Northern Ireland Centre, said: “I am delighted to welcome so many students along to the inaugural RTS Northern Ireland Student Television Awards. The standard of entries was incredibly high, showcasing the hard work, dedication and talent of the students who all rose to the challenge admirably. This is concrete evidence of the importance of education within the television and media industry and I hope that these students, and their tutors, are extremely proud of their achievements. I wish them all the best with the next stage of their careers.”
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry, said: “This event showcases the depth of talent in our further education colleges and universities and I would like to commend all the nominees, as well as the winners. Creative industries, and film and television in particular, have an important role to play in growing the Northern Ireland economy. These awards are testament that our further education colleges and universities are developing an exciting, inspiring and growing pool of highly skilled individuals who can play a key role in this sector.”
