NRC IT Career Academy has a Capital Experience

Tuesday

Northern Regional College Computing students and staff from the IT Career Academy recently made the trip to London for the Career Academies “Capital Experience” event. Gemma Goodrich, NRC IT Career Academy Manager recorded the events, commenting "An extremely busy and enjoyable day was had by all, starting with everyone catching the “Red Eye” flight from Belfast International to Gatwick, and then hopping on the Gatwick Express into the centre of London.

She continuted, "Next ,the bustling underground, to take the group to Blackfriars where they visited the offices of Costain, part of the ATC group, who are fitting out the new underground train system running West to East through London.  Costain delivered an incredibly interesting and informative presentation on their progress to date and future plans.  What really inspired the NRC Computing students was the motivating talks from Costain’s current apprentices and recent university graduates who were not much older that the NRC students themselves.  Costains were also kind enough to provide lunch for all."

The afternoon was filled with a motivational event held in the Dominion Theatre Tottenham Court Road.  Over 1500 Career Academy students attended and heard from speakers including past Career Academy success stories.  Entertainment was provided by Citi choir and dancers from Britain’s Got Talent.

A tired but enthusiastic cohort made their way back to Gatwick Airport for the trip home.  The group further gelled as a result of the day’s shared experiences and are all looking forward to the next stage of their IT Careers Academy journey.
