Monday

As part of the NI Science Festival, the BBC have opened their doors and invited students to come experience all things creative and digital in the #MakeItDigital event. NRC Coleraine and Magherafelt BTEC Level 2 Information Creative Technology had the opportunity to take part in this event.

BBC #MakeItDigital gave the students a taster of the world of computer programming, gaming and robotics. There were also live demonstrations regarding Digital Fabrication, Raspberry Pi, Wearable Tech, Digital Art and all manner of Gadgets.

The most popular demonstrations with NRC students were; Oculus Rift – virtual reality headset display, BBC Weather – the magic of green screen, 3D printing and digital fabrication, Gesture controlled games with Kinect and the STEM module. The students had fun taking part or watching these demonstrations while asking questions about how each of the technologies worked.
Kevin Meehan, Lecturer in Computing said "This was a great opportunity for students to experience a real-world demonstration of how innovative technologies are used. It has also allowed students to get hands-on in the workshops with different types of technology they may not have experienced previously.”
