NRC Graduates say ‘YES’ at Equiniti

Wednesday

Four dynamic young people who took part in the Department for Employment, Youth Employment Scheme (YES), were interviewed by managers from Northern Regional College and Equiniti and assessed as being suitable to become interns in the HR and Payroll department in Equiniti.

After successfully completing the 26 week Skills Development Programme within Equiniti ICS, (encompassing classroom and on-the-job training work placements), the HR and Payroll interns also achieved a Level 4 ILM in Leadership and Management delivered by the Northern Regional College.  The end result was that all four interns have been offered employment with Equiniti ICS.

The YES programme is a joint partnership between Equiniti ICS and the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Department for Employment and Learning. The scheme is aimed at helping the unemployed between the age of 18 - 24 gain employability skills, obtain qualifications and secure employment.
Steve McClure, Service Delivery Manager at Equiniti ICS, says: “Partnerships involving programme delivery and providers such as the Youth Employment Scheme and the Northern Regional College are an exciting way forward for Equiniti.  These programmes uniquely bridge the theory-practice gap, by integrating academic modules with the practical skills in the workplace.  This opportunity to harness new talent and strengthen future employment pipelines is a key benefit for Equiniti.’

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: “I would encourage young unemployed people to explore the opportunities associated with my Department’s Youth Employment Scheme. YES provides a platform to assist young people who are job ready but lack the employability skills required to convince an employer of their ability to enter the world of work.

“Young people can avail from a variety of YES work placements across a range of sectors including web design, engineering and hospitality. Employer vacancies are advertised at your local Jobs and Benefits office or JobCentre and staff in these offices can offer advice on the availability of work experience placements and how to sign up to them.”
