NRC has participated in the ‘Wear it Pink’ day in support of the promotion to raise awareness and fundraise for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

Students and staff got into the pink spirit, by hosting a series of pink tea parties, raffles, pink face and nail paintings, sponsored walks and cycles, manicures and body massages, to raise vital funds for women affected by breast cancer.

Fiona McDowell, NRC’s Equality Officer who co-ordinate the events said,” We had a great response from students and staff who wanted to get involved and to join in the fun and go pink for the day. Everyone has either a direct or indirect knowledge of somebody who has been affected by breast cancer. It is great to see the enthusiasm of students and staff alike getting involved to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Rosie Forsythe, a community fundraising officer for Cancer Focus added that “All money raised for Cancer Focus will be spent locally, continuing to support people affected by breast cancer in Northern Ireland. Cancer Focus is committed to tackling cancer by supporting research, providing care services for cancer patients and their families and education people on how they can reduce their risk of cancer.”

Breast Cancer is now the most common form of cancer in women in Northern Ireland with more than 1,200 women diagnosed with the disease each year, but survival rates are steadily improving. Today, there are around 11,000 women with a diagnosis of breast cancer living in Northern Ireland.
