NRC Participates in World Skills Roadshow in China

Wednesday

In April a member of the NRC Engineering team, Mark Maginty, travelled to China as part of the World Skills Road Show.

The road show to China was intended to demonstrate the skills the UK has in certain World Skills disciplines and showcase them to the interested parties within China, who are keen to learn from the UK. This was organised in partnership with the British Council in China, Shackleton Education Limited in the UK and sponsored by Guangdong Sanxiang Teaching Apparatus Company.

During this current road show, the Chinese had highlighted that they were keen to explore Hairdressing, Floristry and Mechatronics skills to increase their knowledge of each of the skills in relation to the method of teaching within the UK and how to use these skill sets to compete at World Skills in the future, as presently China are expanding the number of skills that they enter into World Skills dramatically.

Mark was invited to be a member of the skills road show group as he had won a Medallion of Excellence in Mechatronics at World Skills in London 2011. The Chinese were especially interested in the structure of the competition, the rules and regulation of the competition, the methods of competing and learning what skills would be required to compete at a world standard. The Guangdong Sanxiang Teaching Apparatus Company that sponsored the trip were keen to gain an insight as to how to improve their product to make it more suitable for the learning environment and in particular for training
purposes within the World Skills setting.
