The Northern Regional College offers specialist training and development for practitioners who wish to pursue a career or obtain a qualification in Assessing Vocational Achievement or Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice.

These qualifications are open to people carrying out assessments and quality assurance in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning, Employers and Third Sector. They are designed for anyone assessing and carrying out quality assurance in all occupational sectors, accredited learning, non-accredited learning, (e.g where performance is being assessed but the learner is not undertaking a qualification), qualifications on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) and qualification on the Qualification Credit Framework (QFC). The popular courses which run at the College’s Ballymena Campus commence on 23rd October and are aimed at those who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the role of an assessor or quality assurance.

A Level 3 Assessor Certificate/Award in Assessing Vocation Achievement provides opportunities for learners to understand the principles of assessment and qualify as an assessor. As part of the course, learners are required to have access to employees in the workplace or students in a class room, who are being assessed on competence or non-competency based learning, knowledge or skills.

The Level 4 Award in Quality Assurance course offers students the opportunity to study one or two units, subject to their needs. The first qualification is a one unit knowledge-only award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices aimed at those who need to gain an insight into internal quality assurance. While the Level 4 two unit Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, is for practitioners who carry out internal quality assurance of the assessment process, within an organisation or centre.

Here is some of what our past students had to say about the courses.

Neal Houston, a lecturer in plumbing said “The assessor course has given me confidence to carry out assessments with learners in the work place.” And Alistair McDonald said that while completing the Internal Quality Assurance Award, the guidance I received from the tutor was very helpful, making the learning experience very enjoyable.

Commenting on the courses, NRC Course Co-ordinator Siobhan Martin states that “The structure of these programmes ensure that the knowledge and skills are relevant to the learner in their development of their work role in assessment and quality assurance.”
