SustainEx is one of the most comprehensive exhibitions in the sustainable technology sector organised by Sustainable Ireland, in association with Invest NI. The event addressed the challenges faced by professionals with environmental responsibilities, enabling them to become more resourceful through best practice, generate increased revenue and make significant improvements to organizational processes.
The event also provides an opportunity for many of the top industry players to exhibit and demonstrate the latest technologies in energy efficiency management, improved waste resources and environmentally friendly methodologies aimed at improving companies’ running costs.
During the exhibition the students attended a seminar entitled ‘Sustainability Driven Design’ which focused on how to construct buildings using low impact sustainable construction materials and how such methods can save energy and make a positive contribution to the environment.
Pat Condren, course lecturer commented, ‘we have just experienced a recession but we need to make the public aware that the construction industry is recovering well. Our students are preparing for careers in the built environment and events such as this allow them to meet and greet industry professionals. The experience has been very valuable and the students enjoyed the visit.’
The college is now recruiting for the Level 3 BTEC Extended diploma in Construction across the three campuses. The course is equivalent to 3 A’ levels and most of the students are able to continue their education on degree courses at universities both in Northern Ireland and across the water. Some students choose to remain and enrol in one of the Foundation Degree courses on offer at NRC. For further information on our Construction courses visit our website www.nrc.ac.uk.
