Guest speaker Sarah Salters, Director ADHD Association provided the students with an informative talk to help students gain a better understanding of the disorder and the dynamics of relationships with children who suffer from it. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is an internationally recognised medical condition affecting at between 5-10% of school aged children. It is characterised by the core behavioural symptoms of inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity.
NRC Curriculum Manager Joanne Pethick explains “The students have been introduced to ADHD as part of their course and how it can affect the behaviour of children. It is essential as part of their training that they understand and can work with children with this disorder. Through visits such as Sarah’s the students have gained a deeper insight into ADHD and into behavioural management.”
