Career Academies UK (soon to be called Career Ready) is a national charity that aims to make young people work ready by delivering a programme of mentoring, masterclasses, workplace visits and internships. NRC has been working with Career Academies UK for 3 years to help students prepare for the world of work.
Anne Spackman, Chief Executive of Career Academies UK, said: “Santander is a fantastic supporter of our programme and the generous funding they provide through this award can give a real boost to the winning centre and runners up. I’d like to wish all three finalists the best of luck and look forward to seeing how the winners use the prize money to improve their programme even further.”
Anoushka Brown, CSR Partnerships Manager at Santander, said: “We are very proud of our partnership with Career Academies UK, which sees us supporting young people around the country to reach their potential and gain vital employability skills. Northern Regional College runs an excellent programme for their students and are a very deserving finalist.”
Bill Watson, Engineering Career Academy and Curriculum Manager at NRC explains ‘I am delighted that NRC Engineering Career Academy has been short listed as one of 3 UK wide finalist school/colleges in the Santander Career Academy of the Year Award. This is recognition on the way we have managed the programme which ultimately 'boosts' student employability by aligning students with mentors from industry and provides paid summer work experience during their Level 3 Engineering Programmes. The programme is run through the college by participating companies such as Schrader Electronics, Hutchinson Engineering, McAuley Engineering, Michelin, Randox Laboratories, CAT, RYOBI, Quad-X and NITC. ‘
The award winners and runners up will be announced at the Career Academy graduation ceremony in London on Tuesday 12 May.
