Northern Regional College secures €300,000 funding

Tuesday

Students and staff at Northern Regional College are set to benefit from €300,000 of funding from EU programme Erasmus+. From September 2016 the funding will be invested in the development of two initiatives: Robotics and Automation in Engineering and Encouraging enterprise and self employment. Staff from Northern Regional College will be building on international links and sharing best practice with partner colleges, employers and start-up agencies from Spain, Portugal, Finland, Romania, Italy and the Czech Republic. The students participating will be eligible to gain a European-wide credit for their learning.

Project co-ordinator Irvine Abraham said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid for this Erasmus+ funding and are looking forward to getting the projects underway.

“More than 20 members of staff and over 600 students stand to benefit from the collaboration.”

Professor Terri Scott, Principal at Northern Regional College said: “Providing our students with opportunities to gain international experience as part of their studies will improve employability and widen their career options.

“The College works closely with employers to ensure our students have the adaptable skills needed for both the local and global marketplaces, so participation in these projects will undoubtedly enrich their student experience and open up future job prospects.”

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s (EU) programme for education, training, youth and sport, with the EU committing £12 billion to the programme between 2014 and 2020. In the UK, the programme is managed by the Erasmus+ UK National Agency, a partnership between the British Council and Ecorys UK.
