Speaking at the presentation ceremony Matt Murray, Head of Engineering and Built Environment at Northern Regional College, explained, “We encourage our students to participate in all competitions, which will enhance their skills and knowledge. The Intercampus Skillbuild competition contributes to the learners experience and improves the trainee’s confidence, while providing them the opportunity to test their skills against their college peers.”
This year, students competed in the following categories Brickwork, Plumbing Pipework, Carpentry, Joinery and Electrical Installation.
Winners in the Brickwork category were, 1st Cameron Waring, 2nd Morgan Boyd, 3rd Aaron Moore. In the Plumbing Pipework category, 1st Matthew Millar and 2nd Jordan Johnston.
In the Carpentry section the winners were, 1st Ryan McGerr, 2nd Patrick McCloskey, 3rd Jordan Sterling. The Joinery category was won by Connor McHugh with 2nd place going to Attila Berencsik and 3rd Lee Gilbert. First place in Electrical Installation category was awarded to Liam McElhinney, 2nd was Mark Sinclair followed by Matthew McCracken in 3rd place.

Skills competitions are an excellent opportunity to showcase and celebrate the high level of skills and impressive talent we possess and reflects the high standards of training and commitment in our college network. We extend further congratulations to those who have excelled in their category and will have an opportunity to demonstrate their talent on a wider scale in the Skillbuild NI Finals in March.”
