Northern Regional College Goes for Gold

Wednesday

Northern Regional College is to get a Gold Centre Award from the International Association of Book-keepers (IAB) in recognition for its work in training computerised bookkeepers. The Gold Centre Award is based on the success rates of the students studying for IAB qualifications; the range of IAB qualifications offered by the College; the length of time the College has been IAB accredited; and the number of students registered on IAB courses each year.

Over 200 colleges throughout the UK are IAB accredited and Northern Regional College, which has been delivering IAB courses since 1996, now joins an elite group of just 25 Colleges to get the prestigious Gold Award accolade.

Claire Lowry is a Business lecturer at the College’s Newtownabbey campus. She says the IAB courses are an ideal stepping stone for anyone interested in pursuing a career in bookkeeping or accounts.

“I started off my own accounting career by doing the IAB Level 2 and 3 Computerised Bookkeeping and Payroll courses and know from personal experience how invaluable these qualifications can be to anyone, either for anyone just starting out on an accounts career or who wants to improve their knowledge to improve their career prospects within the industry.

“Students can go straight into excellent job opportunities or can progress to further and higher accounting qualifications after completing the IAB computerised accounts and payroll qualifications.”

Claire adds that the courses are always in high demand and that while the Computerised Payroll course is already full, there are only limited spaces left on the Level 2 and 3 Bookkeeping courses.

Part-time classes at the College start the week commencing Monday September 18 so anyone interesting in enrolling for this academic year should apply online at www.nrc.ac.uk

The IAB is the leading UK and international professional body for those providing bookkeeping and related accounting services to small businesses. It provides training in an extensive range of the essential business skills needed by anyone starting or developing a small business.
Malcolm Trotter, Chief Executive of the IAB, said the organisation is committed to promoting the highest standards of competence and excellence among bookkeepers.

“Bookkeepers play a key role in the day-to-day management and financial health of businesses of all sizes. Our accredited centres play a crucial part in our work, and to receive the Gold Award, centres have to demonstrate consistently high levels of training and strong results over a long period of time.
Representatives of the College will be presented with the Gold Award later this year at the IAB and IAAP UK and International Business and Skills Awards ceremony in the House of Commons on November 20.
