The students honoured, were chosen from all over Northern Ireland and were acknowledged for their accomplishments in skill-based, work-related and life-long learning qualifications. Celebrating with Northern Regional College was Castle Tower, Ballymena, with Bailey McCrea and St. Patrick’s College, Maghera, with Rosaleen Sweeny who were both awarded Learner of the Year Award in Occupational Studies. Further success was achieved by Stewart Morrow from Dunclug College who was also awarded Learner of the Year Award in Occupational Studies.
The pupils attended Northern Regional College one day per week and studied four modules as part of their training to achieve their Occupational Studies qualification. Young people during their Year 11 and Year 12 at School study on the CCEA Occupational Studies programme which focuses on job related learning and offers students the opportunity to gain work related skills in a number of vocational areas.
Congratulating the students on their achievements Mairead Convery, Educational Partnerships Co-ordinator at Northern Regional College stated:
“Pupils from the local schools attend Northern Regional College to pursue this programme. It is an excellent choice for those who wish to sample a vocational area and learn the practical skills which provide them with valuable experience in preparation for progression to employer based training programmes or employment. The three award winners were outstanding students on this programme. It is a day of celebration for the students, their families, partner schools and academic staff.”
