Northern Regional College a Stepping Stone to University

Wednesday

If you’re at a crossroads and unsure what to do after your GCSE results, you could follow the lead of Northern Regional College student, Ryan McAuley (17). After leaving St Colm’s High School in Draperstown, Ryan decided to do a two year BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Childcare at the College’s Magherafelt campus, which is the equivalent of 3 A levels.

Ryan passed the course with flying colours and achieved an overall distinction. He now plans to take up the offer of a place on the Early Childhood Studies degree programme at Stranmillis University College in Belfast.

Childcare course co-ordinator, Kathy McCabe said that throughout his two years at Northern Regional College, Ryan impressed everyone with his positive attitude, commitment and dedication to his studies and work practice.

His commitment was also recognised outside the College and earlier this year, Ryan was one of only nine young people from across Northern Ireland to receive a prestigious Diana Award. Nominations for the award were received from around the world and the 2017 roll of honour includes 350 young people from the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, India, Belize, Australia, Greece, Indonesia, Croatia, Liberia, Jersey, New Zealand, Indonesia and Liberia.
