Counsellors’ Briefing Session at Northern Regional College

Tuesday

Over 40 counsellors recently attended a briefing session at the Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey campus, outlining requirements for supervising trainee counsellors on part-time counselling programmes. At Northern Regional College, we provide an extensive suite of part-time counselling qualifications, ranging from levels 2-6. This includes a Foundation Degree in Counselling, and a Level 4 certificate in Counselling studies (both are validated by Ulster University). We also offer a number of courses via CPCAB, the only awarding body in Europe to specialise in counselling qualifications. Many of the qualifications include a module on supervised practice. This briefing session provided counsellors with the knowledge required to enable them to supervise Northern Regional College Counselling students.

James Davies, Assistant Head of Department for Childcare and Counselling explained, “Supervised practice is an essential part of the learning experience for counselling students. We are using this event to brief our carefully selected counselling supervisors, to enable them to provide a high level of mentoring to our learners. This benefits the learner in developing a professional skillset, and the college by forming strong professional links with the counselling industry.”

In additional to our portfolio of counselling courses, we can also offer short courses to counselling agencies and community groups. We can tailor these to meet your needs, for further information please contact james.davies@nrc.ac.uk.

Applications for part-time courses starting in September 2016 will open from May at www.nrc.ac.uk.
