William has worked in the Magherabouy Hotel for over 14 years, where he helps with prepping vegetables in the hotel’s busy kitchen and assisting with portering duties.
Lifeskills tutor Sharon Connolly said that all three students were great role models as they had a fantastic attitude and managed to achieve a good work life balance.
“They’re all involved in a lot of different activities so although they’ve a very busy schedule, they still manage to fit everything in. They deserve great credit for their commitment and dedication.”
Sharon continued: “The Lifeskills programme covers a range of different subject areas depending on the individual student’s needs and ability. It is designed to help build their confidence and allow them to develop new skills. The topics we covered this year included basic food and drink preparation, food hygiene, household shopping, computer skills, personal care and hygiene.
Sharon added that as well as juggling their part-time jobs with going to College two days a week, all three are involved in a range of sporting activities including bowling, basketball, soccer and pool, fundraising for the Special Olympics and doing activities organised by The Base, the local drop in centre for adults with learning disabilities.
