With computers and information technology touching nearly every aspect of modern life, IT courses at NRC have seen a steady increase in demand, for students seeking a place, on all of its courses.

The College offers an excellent portfolio of courses, at different levels, across all its Campuses from entry Level 2 Diplomas, to Higher Education courses at Level 4 HNC/Level 5 HND’s in Computing and Systems Development.

Commenting on the demand for these courses Tony Madden, NRC Head of School for Business and Computing said “Information Technology has become ubiquitous and is changing every aspect of how people live their lives. Recent advances with the Internet, Social Media and the new ‘App economy’ all have the ability, to integrate, process and communicate information in digital format, between businesses anywhere in the world. These transformations have reshaped the economies of many global companies and in order to keep all IT systems running, a large well educated workforce is required.”

NRC works closely with a variety of Northern Ireland and UK companies and seeks to continually offer the qualifications, knowledge and skills required by employers and the practical skills for progression into successful careers or university. One of the new courses offered by the College this year is the Level 4 BTEC HNC Diploma in Computing and Systems Development with Game and Mobile App Development.

The course has been tailored, to maximise student’s opportunities and career pathways, in computer games design and development which includes mobile apps, website design, project design and business skills for e-commerce. The qualification provides a progression path to Computing Science, ICT, Interactive Media and other computing related degree courses at university.

For 2014, NRC plans to introduce two new Foundation Degree programmes in IT. Students can look forward to studying, a Foundation Degree in Science in Computing and a Foundation Degree in Interactive Design at the College. Both of these courses have been designed as a result of collaboration with the University of Ulster and the Computing industry.

Tony Madden added that, “These new Foundation Degrees programmes are validated by the University of Ulster and will equip students with suitable skills which will serve the needs of industry and the local economy. The course content has been developed to prepare students for a career in the Computing industry and for further study at honours degree level.”
