Generation Innovation – Night of Ambition for NRC Students

Friday

Two NRC Computing students joined 200 other teenagers from across Northern Ireland at St Georges Market Belfast to join the Generation Innovation, Night of Ambition. This action packed evening, hosted by Radio 1 DJ Phil Taggart, allowed young people to meet and ask leading entrepreneurs a range of questions as to what inspired and motivated them and to take part in an idea generation session. The two students, Rebecca Mills and Jordan Wilson were nominated as ‘Most likely to succeed in the Knowledge Economy’ by the Northern Regional College. They are currently studying on the Level 2 Information Creative Technology course at the Magherafelt Campus and were nominated due to their entrepreneurial flair, work ethic, overall grade performance and general level of engagement throughout the course.

Generation Innovation Programme Manager, Claire Burgoyne explains: 'This event is not designed for young people to be passive listeners to entrepreneurs who share their stories/visions with the audience.  They want these young people to proactively take part in becoming the entrepreneurs of the future.  It is also an opportunity for them to have one-on-one conversations with some of our most successful local “tech” talent in N. Ireland and beyond. It is interactive, dynamic, inspirational and most importantly hands on.

Kevin Meehan, Lecturer in Computing at NRC said “This event is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to engage with local industry and learn from entrepreneurs’ experiences. It is an event that has a lasting legacy with each student as they can join the alumni of ‘Generation Innovation’ and in turn this provides opportunities to participate in future projects’. The event, which is run by the Northern Ireland Science Park is now an annual event which is growing rapidly and providing brilliant opportunities for students all across Northern Ireland.
