Minister Farry said: “The CNC Milling Academy is an excellent example of government intervention to improve the skills of those seeking employment, whilst providing employers with the skilled staff to meet the needs of their business. I welcome the partnership approach between my Department, Invest NI, Northern Regional College (Northern College) and RLC Engineering in developing this Academy.
“I have designated the Engineering and Manufacturing sector as a priority skills area and it is essential that we deliver the skilled people to assist companies such as RLC Engineering to grow their business which in turn will grow our local economy.”
RLC Engineering has identified these new roles as part of its expansion plans. The CNC Milling Academy will provide trainees with five weeks training followed by a four week work placement in RLC Engineering.
Maeve Gallagher, Managing Director of RLC Structures & Systems said: “The Department has consulted with, and listened to, the sector and the result is this exciting and creative new opportunity for interested candidates to learn important skills and gain practical experience in the workplace with the potential to gain full time employment.
“Next year we will be investing almost £35million to expand our Northern Ireland operations, opening a new factory at Global Point in Newtownabbey, a sister site to our existing facility at Langford Lodge, Crumlin. The new jobs which will be created as a result of that investment are a tangible illustration of the opportunities which lie ahead for those who are trained and focused on building their careers within this dynamic sector.”
