This one day training was based on the Caterpillar SWE (Simulated Work Environment) production system. The students were exposed to real-life production issues and had to overcome quality, health & safety, production volume and work-flow problems.
The training had particular relevance to their Level 3 BTEC Engineering course and has let the students see ‘hands on’ what issues exist in a cutting edge production environment. Stephen McCullough (Caterpillar Process Excellence Manager) facilitated the event. Stephen sits on the Local Advisory Board for the Career Ready (Engineering) Programme which aligns students with a one-to-one mentor experience and a paid internship during their summer break. This year Caterpillar are mentoring 2 engineering students Ewan Noble and James Fleck.
