The JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship Awards were established in 2008 to give gifted young students extra financial support. For the duration of their undergraduate programme, award winners will each receive £5,500 a year towards their university fees and other expenses. A total of 25 scholarships will be awarded to Northern Ireland students – 19 to the top performing A level students in grant aided post primary schools and the other six to the top performing Level 3 Extended Diploma students in Further Education colleges.
Former Northern Regional College graduate, Sophie Calderwood from Ballymoney, who is now doing a degree in British Sign Language at Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh, was the recipient of a JP McManus Scholarship last year. Sophie, who is from Ballymoney. studied Business and IT at the College’s Trostan Avenue campus in Ballymena.
